A LITTLE ABOUT US AND OUR HISTORY
Silverlake Fencing, located in the heart of the Silverlake district of Los Angeles, is a foil-only fencing studio that welcomes fencers of all levels. From beginners to seasoned competitors, and from recreational enthusiasts to aspiring champions, we offer classes for both adults and children.

Our studio emphasizes the fundamental principles of fencing, including etiquette, while fostering a supportive, inspiring, and enjoyable environment. Our approach is designed to cultivate a love for the sport and encourage each athlete's growth.

Founded in 2014 by Karolyn Szot, Silverlake Fencing began as a labor of love, blending Karolyn's passion for fencing and teaching with her desire to bring the sport to the Silverlake community and beyond.
In 2024, Karolyn passed the torch to Coach Victor Yuan and longtime Silverlake Fencing veteran David J. Weissberg, who continue to uphold the studio’s philosophy of blending competition, community, and fun.
QUICK FAQ
WHAT KIND OF FENCING STUDIO ARE YOU?
We are a foil only studio.
We cater to both the competitive and recreational fencer in a friendly, approachable environment.

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?
For beginners (adults + children) we provide all the necessary equipment: Mask, Glove, Jacket, Lame and Foil.
Students should wear sweatpants, shorts or tights. Athletic shoes or sneakers. Also a bottle of water and a small towel are also recommended.
*** After a couple months, fencers are encouraged to purchase their own equipment. Speak with us about gear recommendations.

I'M COMPLETELY NEW TO THE SPORT, DO YOU HAVE AN INTRO CLASS?
Yes!
For adults we have introductory classes on Sundays.
For kids we have 6 week beginner to intermediate sessions.

I'M AN EXPERIENCED FENCER, CAN I JUST COME TO BOUT?
For those who have fenced in the last 5 years, and own most of their own gear, you can sign up for one of our Open Fencing sessions.
